Who is Hằng (Huhng)?
A guardian of love, torn between duty and desire.
Hằng is the immortal demigoddess of marriage, tasked with uniting souls in unbreakable bonds.
With a gentle heart and a rebellious spirit, she is bound to a secluded mountain pagoda, unable to leave, blessing mortals who come seeking a strand of her hair.
She performs a ritual where couples seeking her favor bring their love before her. They come to her with hopes of sealing their vows with a bit of divine magic.
So she cards her hair with her jade comb, causing a single strand to fall out, which then dissolves into a glowing thread, entwining the couple’s fates and granting them a lasting bond.
Each blessing brings her closer to divine ascension. But, inside, she’s yearning for much more—freedom, to love and live beyond the confines of her divine purpose.
Bound From the Beginning
Hằng’s existence didn’t start with a choice but with a divine decree. Long ago, she spontaneously materialized as a baby on a stretch of land that would one day become present-day Vietnam, accompanied by her mentor, Đạt, a wise and stern demigod in the form of a giant tortoise.
Their journey to the mountain pagoda was marked by rapid growth—both physical and spiritual—for Hằng, who quickly learned her purpose. Her arrival sealed the beginning of her duties as the demigoddess of marriage, and since then, she has been forbidden from leaving.
Over the centuries, she has witnessed both the beauty and the darkness of human nature. One encounter, in particular, haunts her: a man who forcefully pulled a strand of hair from her, only to have his wife leave him, and he blamed Hằng for his misfortune.
That moment sparked a fire of anger and helplessness in her—a stark reminder that even godly beings can be vulnerable.
Đạt, ever the watchful guardian, encourages her to stay focused on her divine duties. For centuries, Hằng has played the perfect daughter to the gods, using her enchanted jade comb to grant blessings of love in her quest to earn her place among the full-fledged gods and goddesses.
But fulfilling her duty comes at a cost each time: a strand of her hair, a piece of her spirit. With each strand of hair she gives, it never grows back—once it’s gone, it’s gone forever.
And as she gives away more of herself, new emotions start surfacing—feelings she struggles to understand.
The more love she grants to others, the more she realizes how deeply she longs to experience it for herself.
And then, Hằng finds herself irresistibly drawn to someone who shows her a kind of freedom she can’t help but yearn for.
Torn Between Worlds
Divinity or desires—can she have both?
Enter Vĩnh, the demigod of war, who makes her heart race and feel a passion she never thought possible. He embodies the freedom she longs for; he roams the world, soaring through the skies and exploring far beyond her reach.
He’s the first demigod she meets aside from Đạt, and they are drawn together by their shared compassion for human suffering and desire to ascend to godhood.
She admires his determination to fight the war that could end all wars. But his mission is perilous, and the looming possibility of failure hangs over their relationship.
Unless both succeed in their divine tasks, they will be separated forever. Their only chance to reunite lies in fulfilling her duties.
The possibility of his absence looms over her, deepening her attachment to him; yet, it also forces her to confront the painful truth that their love might be as fleeting as the human lives they seek to help.
Strengths and Flaws
Strengths: Hằng is gentle, kind-hearted, and deeply empathetic. Her grace and reverence for the gods have made her an esteemed figure among mortals. She’s playful, artistic, and always eager to learn new things.
Flaws: Her idealism and naivety can sometimes blind her to the harsher truths of life. She’s got a temper that flares when faced with conflict, and she often suppresses her own desires. Her possessiveness is another hidden flaw; she subconsciously sees Vĩnh as her savior and clings to the idea that he holds the key to her freedom, keeping her from understanding or embracing her own autonomy.
Core Desire: Freedom. She thinks that becoming a goddess will give her the ultimate freedom, but deep down, she longs for the simple joys that only humans can experience, and the kind of love that’s unrestrained and real.
A Choice That Could Change Everything
With just one strand of hair left, what will she do?
After many strands given away, Hằng stands at a crossroads. Granting her last strand will complete her divine mission and secure her ascension to goddess status.
But a question lingers in her heart: What lies on the other side of her final strand? What if she were to keep it, to guard the last piece of her gift for herself? Maybe she could save it for when she and Vĩnh reunite as gods.
Yet, she doesn’t know how the gods would react—would defying the gods for her wants be worth it?
The choice is hers, but it’s not without consequences. Will Hằng embrace the freedom she’s always yearned for, or will she choose duty, sacrificing her desires for the sake of divinity?

#1. “I’m—I’m flying! I never thought…Vĩnh, I’m really flying!”
#2. “And then…everyone would feel love. There wouldn’t be a single soul on earth who didn’t know the feeling. No more hatred, no more sadness. I think…that’s what I’d create with my power as a real goddess.”
